2010 Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Race/Walk Hopes to Raise $700,000 for Special Olympics

In the past four years, Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Run/Walk has raised over $1,600,000 for Special Olympics Broward County. We hope that through the generous support of our sponsors and supporters, we can raise another $700,000 this year and have over 1200 participants for the 2010 race.  “It is such an honor to be raising money for Special Olympics Broward County.  We want this race to become one of the most financially successful in the country, so that we can continue to provide the best program for our athletes” says Paul Sallarulo, chairperson for Special Olympics Broward County.

Be a part of SOMETHING SPECIAL and join us for the 2010 Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Run/Walk (In Memory Of: Agata “Ida” Sallarulo, George “Bob” W. Gill, Jr. And Melvin Zarefsky) on May 2, 2010 at Nova Southeastern University.  The course is USATF certified, but for those who don’t wish to run or walk, please come out to volunteer or just meet our athletes.

Race for Champions Goals:
• Establish an annual fundraising event to benefit Special Olympics Broward County and establish a permanent home for Special Olympics Broward County.
• Educate the Broward community that Special Olympics is a year round program.
• Share the Athlete’s gifts, skills and friendship with our community.

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports.  Special Olympics Broward County provides a FREE program that enriches the lives and improves the confidence and self-image of hundreds of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. We need YOUR help to keep our great program going & growing!

Pre-registration closes Friday, April 30, 2010 at 5:00PM. You can also register on-site, the day of the Race/Walk, beginning at 6:15 AM.

Race Day Schedule:
Registration & Packet Pick-up is from 6:15am to 7:55am.  Race numbers and Chronotrack tags will only be distributed to those registered by 7:30am.  The 5K Run/Walk will start at 8:00am.  The Awards Ceremony will start at approximately 8:45am.

Awards: Every participant receives a medal
Awards will be given to top 3: Male & Female First Overall; Masters Male & Female Overall; First Male & Female Wheelchair. Three Deep Age Group, 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+ .  The Awards Ceremony will start at approximately 8:45 am.
