Race for Champions

Special Olympics Broward County
enriches the lives and improves the
confidence and self-image of hundreds of
children and adults with intellectual disabilities. In 2005, Our program found itself in poor financial health and we needed more money to grow and expand.  As chairperson for SOBC, Paul Sallarulo decided to do something to help us.  He decided he would get himself and SOBC in better shape.  So it is only fitting that as
Paul Sallarulo turned 50, he looked to the athletes of
Special Olympics to provide him with the
inspiration to get back in shape. As a part
of his commitment, Paul  vowed to raise
$100,000.

You may be wondering how Paul was going
to get in shape. Well he’s decided that he
would start running marathons. He was going
to do a half marathon (only 13.1 miles)
in Orlando on January 7, 2006. To get
through this ordeal, he’s enlisted a
little HELP from his FRIENDS.

Thanks to the generous support of Paul's FRIENDS, the 2006 Sallarulo’s Race for Champions, raised over $130,000 for Special Olympics Broward County.
It surpassed our financial goal and Paul completed his personal goal of running the half marathon in Orlando.
Many donors asked for a local event so that they could participate with our own Special Olympics Athletes.
Therefore, the 2007 Race for Champions 5K Race/Walk (In Memory of Katherine & Pat Sallarulo) was planned for February 11, 2007 at Nova Southeastern University.
