2007 Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Race/Walk

(In Memory of Katherine & Pat Sallarulo)

Due to the support and generosity of our donors, The 2006 Sallarulo’s Race for Champions raised over $130,000 for Special Olympics Broward County. This event surpassed Paul’s financial goal and he completed his personal goal of running the half marathon in Orlando.
Many donors asked for a local event to participate with our own Special Olympics Athletes. Therefore, the 2007 Race for Champions 5K Race/Walk (In Memory of Katherine & Pat Sallarulo) was held on February 11, 2007 at Nova Southeastern University.
Race for Champions Goals:
• Establish an annual fund raising event (In Memory of Katherine & Pat Sallarulo) to benefit Special Olympics Broward County
• Educate the Broward community that Special Olympics is a year round program
• Share the Athlete’s talents, skills and friendship with our community

The 2007 Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Race/Walk, benefiting Special Olympics Broward County was held on February 11, 2007 at Nova Southeastern University.   Over $140,000 was donated and over 325 people participated.

The Race for Champions 5K race/walk was a huge success.  We had over 40 Special Olympics athletes participate in the race and many of them brought family, friends and coaches along with them for this wonderful experience.  Each participant in the race received a medal for their efforts. Special Olympic athlete, Kerri Leonardo, took first place in her age group.  Awards were given for top 3 overall racers and top 3 racers in various age groups.  This event’s success was due to the generosity of our sponsors.
